Responsible Wool Standard

RWS Certified

Ethical from the source. Every Summitwool sock starts on an RWS Certified farm.

What RWS is

The Responsible Wool Standard is an independent global certification administered by Textile Exchange, a non-profit that sets standards for responsible textile production. It audits wool from the farm through every stage of processing.

Animal welfare

Certified farms must demonstrate humane treatment across the whole flock — adequate nutrition, health care, shelter and handling. Mulesing is prohibited. No exceptions, no workarounds.

Land management

Growers are required to protect soil health and biodiversity through managed grazing, so the land supporting the flock stays productive instead of being worn out.

Full traceability

Certified wool is tracked through a chain of custody from farm to finished sock. That's how we can say where our fibre comes from rather than simply calling it "premium".

Why it matters for the sock on your foot

Well-managed flocks produce better fibre. The sub-18.5 micron merino we use is soft enough for next-to-skin wear and consistent enough to knit into a sock that holds its shape for hundreds of washes. Read the full fibre comparison on our Why Merino page.
